Grateful for the Bigger Reality

Sixteen years ago today, I stopped the story in my head. I left that small reality to join the bigger reality of life right now in the present moment.
Every day, I breathe and return to the wide world around me, which connects me to what is real.
The fog of my mind clears, and I see things much more clearly.
Peace rises, and I feel connected.
The flow of life is all around me, and in me.
This is the reality I want to exist in.
Many years ago, at a workshop in the Bay Area, I heard the concept that there was more than one reality. I thought that was one of the dumbest things I’d ever heard because, of course, there was just one reality. But as I delved into the idea of reality, I realized everyone has their own reality based on what they think about themselves, others, and life. I also learned that we get stuck in our own reality because of our rambling mind and negative thoughts, and that there is a wide, open, vast space where real life, in the moment, is happening all the time. We don’t experience this real life because we are like a horse with blinders on.
I use gratitude to return to real life in the present moment. I pause, focus on what there is to be grateful for, and I breathe.

I am here to love and grow
To embrace my light and let it glow
To awaken from my sleep
To all my thoughts, and actions reap
When I observe the truth I see
This is the place when I am free
When I accept, and I let go
I enter the wonder of the flow

I give thanks for this food
For the sun and for the moon
For blue skies and twinkling stars
For all I’ve learned so far
I give thanks for my birth
For the sea and for the earth
For the animals and trees
For the flowers and the bees
I give thanks for my home
For my health and for my phone
For the moment I let things be
For the place where I am free

I give thanks for this day
For the sun and for the rain
For the moments I go slow
For the moments I can grow
For my dog and for the park
For the Life Energy
that is my spark
This day I cross over to the wonderful reality that exists everywhere outside the limited reality my mind makes up.

Day is done and night is here
I lay down my thoughts and fears
I open my heart and rest my mind
In this moment of space in time
I let all my worries go
I enter the quiet of the flow
In 2023, I started practicing daily Gratitude. Each week, I picked something to be grateful for. Then, each day when I ate, I was mindful of the thing I had chosen to be grateful for that week. At the end of the year, I had 52 things I had been grateful for. Being mindful of all the good in my life, changed my daily experience from that of lack to that of abundance.
Focusing on what we have in our lives, that is good, is miraculous because it brings us into the reality of life in the present moment!
